The class action brough against the accused car companies at the High Court could yet be expanded to include 1.8 million customers of 14 car brands.
It's been 10 years since dieselgate first came to light with Volkswagen group, later costing the company about £30bn in fines and compensation.
German carmaker Volkswagen has already paid out billion in compensation
In 2015 that the German carmaker was said to have fitted so-called defeat devices to most diesel models. The illegal software would give a false, low reading when the vehicles were undergoing emissions testing.
The bulk of VW's £30 billion bill was paid out in the United States, while here in the UK, Volkswagen settled claims for a £193m total payout to 91,000 owners in May 2022.

Now it seems, other car brands could face a similar fate if things don't go their way at the High Court - The case is set to last approximately 10 - 12 weeks but potential claimants might have to wait until mid-2026 when the court is expected to make a judgement.
