I’m in my early 40’s now but noticed that I was in a losing battle with my hair when I was in my early 30’s, I got my last haircut in a barbers when I was 33. My head looked like a lollipop that had been dropped on a dirty carpet so I decided just to bite the bullet, accept baldness and start shaving it off myself. Anyway - I’d heard of minoxidil (from watching the Simpsons) and had never given it much thought until 5 months ago when I started wondering what it would be like to have hair again so after some research I decided to give this a try. Does it work? I would say it definitely does work but it’s not a quick fix and I’ve accepted that I will need to use this forever if I want to keep/have hair. I shaved my head regularly for the first 3 months of use then let it grow for the past 2 months with just a little trimming and the results are what you see on the pictures, first picture is 1 month of using this product (I shaved it off the next day) second picture is today 5 months after first use. I never thought this would work for me but I took a chance and it’s definitely doing what it’s supposed to. If you are considering giving this a try then please note that it’s not cheap and you will have to use this for life, I’m yet to decide if it’s all worthwhile but for now I’m happy with the results and I plan my first trip to the barbers next month for the first time in 10 years. FYI- I use as directed on the leaflet 1/2 (half) cap twice per day starting at the crown and massaging onto the scalp on the areas needed, it says on the leaflet it does not work at the temple’s but I’ve noticed a great improvement around that area. Ps: after 3 months of using this product and after a lot of research I started using finasteride too, I’ve had no side effects from either product but if you are considering using finasteride I would suggest that you research thoroughly and read all possible side effects and decide if you are willing to take the chance. Hopefully this review will help even one person decide either way if they want to go ahead and try this stuff or decide against. Good luck on the journey.

    I’ve been using Regaine For Men Hair Regrowth Foam for several months now, and I’m genuinely impressed with the results. Initially, I was skeptical about using a hair regrowth product, but I’m happy to report that this product has delivered noticeable improvements.

    It’s important to realise that this is one of those products that works for some people and doesn’t for others. Here are a few tips to improve your experience either way:

    1. Keep your expectations realistic. This was designed primarily to deal with hair loss around the crown, not the temples, though it can work for the latter in some people. Even then, particularly with the temple areas, the difference will be subtle. Me and my brother have both seen a difference and some minor new growth with our temple receding areas, but the difference is subtle (which is better than nothing, so I’ll take it). I came off the foam for a couple of months and my recession got noticably worse, then improved again when I got back on the foam for a while, so it could be that it’s acting more as a “maintainer” than a “regrower”. Still, that’s just my personal experience, yours may vary.

    2. You MUST use it for a long period of time (anywhere up to a year or so) before you really see a difference. If you aren’t prepared to stick with it for this long, don’t start or it’ll probably just make things worse (see below)

    3. It will likely make your hair loss worse to begin with. Many of the reviews of people who have started it and stopped after a month or two because of their hair shedded are shooting them selves in the foot, since they haven’t soldiered on enough to see any real potential benefits. You have to commit to the shed and be prepared to stick through it. There may be some people who don’t get any regrowth after this shedding period (and my heart goes out to them), but most people will see any results after this first shed. I was very scared when it make my hairloss worse to begin with, but eventually started seeing the benefits (took me 8 or 9 months to start seeing effects).

    4. You do have to use it every day for the rest of your life. Some people hate this, but think of it like toothpaste. If you stop brushing your teeth for a month, your teeth are going to suffer. Likewise, if you come off this, you will lose any progress you made. It’s more of a maintainance program/daily routine like shaving or brushing your teeth.

    5. If none of this sounds good to you and you want a ‘natural’ alternative, look into Rosemary Oil. Some studies have shown it to be as effective as Minoxidil when used daily, just do your research beforehand and don’t apply the oil neat to your skin (I’ve tried mixing it with argan oil to around a 5%-10% concentration. Hard to say how much it’s doing, but it makes my scalp tingle, which would imply increased blood flow, and it’s pretty cheap, so it can’t really hurt.). Still, even with this, keep expectations reasonable, it’s likely any difference will be small.

    6. The only real way to slow down or reverse male pattern baldness in some cases is with Finasteride. Many people use a combination of Finasteride, Minoxidil and Nizoral Shampoo (the ‘big 3’) to great effect, but Finasteride will have the largest difference of the 3 by far. It can come with side effects so do research and speak to your doctor beforehand.

    7. Derma-rolling/Dermapenning seems to increase the effectiveness of Minoxidil. You have to make sure that you don’t use the foam on the same day you pen/roll your scalp as you don’t want to get minoxidil into your bloodstream, as it can effect your blood pressure. Make sure you research all this beforehand, don’t just do it because I said it, but many people have found the combination to be much more effective than minoxidil alone.

    So, to sum up, this DOES work for some people, but doesn’t for others, and it is a long-term investment and expense that may or may not bring benefits to you, and if it does work for you, the effect is likely to be subtle. Personally, it has enough of an effect for me to justify the cost, and I haven’t experienced any real negatives from it.

    The only way to know for yourself if it works for YOU is to invest into being a human Guinea Pig for a year or so and then you’ll know for sure. If that doesn’t sound good to you, then maybe give it a miss and try an alternative such as Rosemary Oil/Dermarolling/Nizoral/Scalp Massage etc :)
