Easy reading
This is a surprisingly comfortable device to hold and makes reading easy. Overall not great for comics, as there is no colour. Definitely better for reading than my iPad. Software is slow but battery life is great. So get it for the reading experience but not because of the software. That isn't great.

    My step-daughter specified the kindle version she wanted for Christmas present, which was above amount budgeted and so I bought a certified refurbished version rather than new and was also able to spread the payments across several months. My heart sank when she had a software problem with it where pages kept moving on automatically as expected it to have difficulties returning it. Not at all. The simple step process was incredibly simple. I ordered a free collection via Royal Mail for the following day, no original packaging or label-printing was needed. This was managed as a return rather than request for repair, and I was able to reorder another replacement straight away. No additional effort involved in rearranging the finance which was still in place. The whole process was simple and quick and she has no problems with the replacement.

    I got this as my old kindle was full & disaster still not managed to work out how to remove or relocate to iCloud, as I needed to get one with a better light to view more clearly, looked brand new when received & as it had a full guarantee I thought nothing to loose. Having a lit screen is brilliant so much less strain & if I was more of a techno geek I might have found it easier to get it ŵorking. I have managed to put books on it & am gradually finding all it's quirks. I do prefer to have written instructions rather than just being expected to understand how to get going with a couple of arrows & 2 pages of Chinese writing which I must see if there is a course as this seems to be a trend. I daresaŷ if I was my 13 year old godson it would be a doddle, but I am getting to love it more & my bookworm addiction can carry on.

    Been using the app on phone for years.. struggled with accessing maps, thought it would be easier. It isnt. Down side not using phone or pad u cant share quotes to social media or whatsapp.
    Other downside , my phone sheet is set to ivory i find that easirr.
    Overall encourage reading.. because i cant share i share less read more!

    Like the size fits in hand neatly...

    One of the best purchases I have made in a while, it really helped me to read more and rediscover my love of reading. Plus, ebooks tend to be much cheaper than hard copies, so over time you will end up making your money back through savings (I've even found books for free without kindle unlimited, especially classics are really cheap on kindle)

    I never thought I would swap from hard copy books to digital, but after I saw how paper-like the Kindle page was (seeing people reading on the tube) I thought I would give it a go and what can I say, I'm a convert.

    Even considering re-purchasing most of my books in Kindle format, so I can whittle my library down to just a select few.

    I totally love my Kindle and wish I had tried one sooner.

    Absolutely fine being refurbished too, although I did return the first one they sent me, as it wasn't as crisp as I expected. The replacement however, is amazing!

    I do have a few minor moans
    The back cover is a matt, rubbery finish which is non slip but a magnet for dirt, finger marks and greasy marks.
    The front cover screen surround is a finger mark magnet
    The touch screen is not that responsive and feels very slow after after my iPad, however, I must stress that it does the job but just feels slow and old tech.
    The blacks are not really that black so book covers/pictures are pretty poor but the printed word is perfect.
    But......I do love it and wouldn’t hesitate to buy another

    I love this little e-reader. Received as a gift for my
    birthday. Now that libraries are closed due to Covid, I have been forced to read more digital books and the transition is easy. I will probably get a pop socket or some kind of case for this. If you're laying in bed it's hard to hold comfortably to read without accidentally changing pages. The touch screen is dinosaur slow and very glitchy on the menus but this is probably because this is a low tech device used for one purpose. Reading. And we are so used to our high tech phones. Once you get past that, it's a great product. I still prefer to pick my. Oils on my phone and send them to my reader because I like to see in color. The detail on the white part of the page is nice and has a bit of texture. I can read for hours without my eyes hurting like with my phone. Love the size, super compact.

    If I didn't work as an engineer in one of the OP in the World I would really question the sanity of making an upgrade that obviously was flawed. I'm sure many Amazon Employees knew by locating a PROTRUDING on off on the BOTTOM of an EReader WITH NO WAY TO TURN BOOK READING MODE UPSIDE DOWN WAS A TOTAL F - UP!
    IM also sure that Folks with pull and needing to keep thier Chimneys intact made changes in order to justify the changes. I've seen it dozens of times. What other excuse could they have? That not one of the members of this group that has the POWER to change a product that sells in the Millions even tried to hold and read one before joking it?
    EVEN A SLIGHT TOUCH ON THE BUTTON FROM A THROW OR YOUR FINGER OR.....ETC. WILL SHUT IT OFF AND IF YOU TRY TO CONNECT TOO SOON IT REBOOTS AND YOU HAVE TO WAIT AND WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE ABLE TO READ AGAIN.
    I thought I was just not seeing how to read in upside down position this putting button out of harm's way on top, however after calling "techs" at Amazon they confirmed the stupidity.
    Cost of adding this ability? No $ ... just dignity and worry about how to explain an alternative to a problem the Folks on the change engineering group were hiding.
    Now add Elders to the mix and the Reader becomes almost useless because its hard to hold up with fingers for hours reading. Set it on lap and.....its off again!!! SAD
    And will Amazon replace one of the most expensive readers like the Paperwhite? NOPE ... cant afford it.
    The elderly who spent SS $ on this device because by enlarging the E Type allows them to read W/O glasses is now not worth the trouble.

    I love my kindle, i do! However, this model for some reason has a tendency to skip through multiple pages. I will be reading, touch to get to next page, and all of a sudden what I'm reading doesn't make sense, and I have to go back five sometimes eight pages to find where I left off. Weird, and pulls me out of the story every time! Other than that, this thing is amazing. I will probably upgrade once the new models drop in price. I would live the side buttons to change pages, I think that might help with the issue.

    Nachdem ich meinen alten Kindle in der Badewanne versenkt und dadurch beschädigt hatte, musste ein wasserdichtes Exemplar her. Das Gehäuse fässt sich angenehm an, leider ist der Touch Screen etwas zu unempfindlich. Ich muss teilweise mehrmals swipen bis er reagiert. Und der An-/Aus- Knopf nervt einfach nur. Wie man so einen Design-Fehler machen kann ist einfach unglaublich. Muss ein Nicht-Leser gewesen sein, der das entworfen hat. Egal wie ich den Kindle anfasse beim Lesen, ich komme immer wieder an diesen blödsinnigen Knopf, der dann mitten im Satz den Kindle ausschaltet! Der Knopf ist am unteren Gehäuserand fast mittig positioniert. Nicht etwa oben, nein, dort, wo man immer irgendwie einen Finger zur Stabilisierung hat. Ich kenne niemanden, der ein Buch oder ein Lesegerät am oberen Rand festhält. Also warum ist dieser Knopf nicht einfach dort?! Ich bin eben wieder mitten beim Lesen dadurch unterbrochen worden und bin mittlerweile am Überlegen, mir ein anderes Lesegerät zu besorgen. Ich hab es satt.

    I just received this and it does work well however, the charge does not last weeks. If you read a little every day it will only last a couple of weeks.
