Next to useless!!! Turned on for ten minutes, screen started to break up when items were selected and then it just died! I'm left with an inconvenient shiny little tray! Terrible!
I have 2 of these and they are great value for money, on the down side they need to sort out there app store WHY CAN I NOT GET SKY Q? the choice of apps just isn't available compared to what you get on a cheap android tablet. Build quality is good Screen and picture are excellent Just Amazon operating platform let's it down shame.
Really disappointed with this product. Incredibly slow and unresponsive. Takes a long time to warm up every time it’s switched. Browsing the internet is painful. Watching Netflix and amazon video is generally ok but can lag even with a super fast WiFi. Feels like a waste of money.
I have now got two of these and I am so glad that the latest, a refurbished one is the same 5th Generation as the first.
I also bought a 64mb card and one of the Orange kids cases by MoKo actually no other kid's cases available for this model on Amazon and in could find no others on ebay.
I have to confess I found the kids case too hard to put on the device and bearing in mind having to have access to the memory card slot I decided to put my old HD10 with its redundant slot in the new kids case. I had to use a shoehorn ! ! !
My old HD 10 had stopped retaining the memory card. Of course this may have been my fault for swapping cards too much.
The new HD10 is now in the three year old black kids case with handle. Actually for a film machine the handle is a great stand.
Picture is great. Sound is great, but limited volume because of UK regulations and partially deaf I need extra sound sometimes for my right ear, you can plug in an external speaker in the headphone socket. Mind you I tend not to have music on my travelling kindle.
Cards. Before you start downloading check out how to choose what you want to download on to a card and what you want to download on to your device. I put films on card - the 64mb card now has 23 films on it using only 10.24mb. These films were downloaded on the GOOD setting. You are asked each time you download a film what setting you want. I did find a dancing sequence of Barbra Streisland and Michael Crawford appeared to blur on the HD10 but on the same GOOD setting was perfect on the HD7. I just downloaded that film on the HD10 at a higher setting. Don't just plump for a higher setting as that could cost you a lot in storage space.
Also media downloaded on a card in one HD10 will not playback in another HD10 the same with smaller sized Fires with memory cards, so if you share your Fire with a child or children you can download adult films on a different card from the children's films. This means you'll need separate cards if the children have individual devices and so have to download any film they both like on each device individually.
These Kindle Fires are very easy to synchronise to a bluetooth keyboard to make it a mini laptop. I type notes as emails and send them to myself to open on my Dell laptop and copy and paste wherever as the Fire has only a micro sub socket.
I did not choose to have apps downloaded on to a card as if you do change cards the app won't be on the device in readiness. You can download your own videos and photographs
I keep e-books on the device itself as they really don't take much memory space. Audible books I put on another card.
I was disappointed when Amazon took the 10" Fire off the market as I wanted a versatile tablet for travelling, and I wanted to be able to keep up with emails. I'd tried a friend's and really liked it. I was therefore delighted to be able to get a reconditioned one. It's as good as new, and I've bought the integral keyboard. Perfect for travelling, and I 've bought an office pro app so I can even write on the train.
I have always used an iPad and as it started to slowly die after 8 years use I decided I would give a Fire a try. to be honest for the money its grand but if I had a choice I would definitely go back to apple. I find the battery life terrible I used to think the iPad was bad and then I got this. I use it mainly as a portable TV and sometimes for reading. Its frustrating that I cant cast to chrome cast like I could with the iPad and I also cant delete certain apps that I don't want off it. Some of the apps are also not great The iPlayer app for example is dreadfully hard to hear the volume is awful yet other apps I have to turn the volume down on. Overall for the money it wasn't too bad a purchase but in future I think it will be back to Apple devices for me!
Was going to buy the 7" Fire HD then saw this offer of a Prime £75 reduction on the 10" Fire HD refurbished, reducing it to just £84 and spreading the payment over 5 months so not a large hole in my moth eaten wallet. Was not too sure what to expect but was very happy when I received it. Looks good as new, not the original packaging, but hey that just gets thrown away. Had no problems setting it up, it is super fast and handles multi tasks very well without screen freezes. And the graphics are outstanding. At this price and with the option to pay over 5 months interest free you cannot go wrong in my opinion.
It is a nice tablet. However, it is very slow. Opening websites is slow. In fact overall it is slower than my 4 year old chrome book. Bit disappointing. Also within a few days the newer hd tablet was available at a very similar price. Now if I had waited a couple of days then I would have bought the newer model. Such is life. I bought for my wife to replace the chrome book which really has had better days. Now this is sat gaining dust and the chrome book is doing it’s thing, quicker. If buying buy the latest hd fire tablet. The price on this, ‘refurbished ‘ is very disappointing. Tldr: Too slow, just get the newer released he fire tablet or buy an old chrome book. :) Bought the keyboard too. Again sat gaining dust.
