About this movie

Lowly theme park mechanic Sam dreams about his childhood sweetheart Sue. With the mistaken belief that only a bling ring can win the girl of his dreams, Sam plans the most perfect night to propose to his one true love. But when super villain Oscar shows up with his own evil ring that could destroy the city, Sam’s plans are thrown into utter disarray. Mistaking each other’s rings for their own, Sam teams up with his robot super heroes to track down his engagement ring and save the city… learning that it’s not about the size of the bling, but the size of your heart.

My first time to use Google Play app on my 3-year old 60 inch LG plasma TV this afternoon, and I was worried that my service provider might not meet the data speed in high definition - but I was wrong, the animation in high definition was excellent and clear while keeping the TV"s contrast at medium so that the pixels don't show up too much if contrast brightness is up very high. Quite an action-packed animated comedy, although I thought I would see more of those small minions wearing the Viking helmets do their villainous acts but seemed only disappointingly cameo-like brief appearance. I really like the movie The Minions a lot since they remind me of the Three Stooges being narrow-minded and bashful.

Bling is not a BAD movie per say, but the characters were sort of shallow, the plot was rushed, and a lot of the movie was cheesy. The Minitaurs are obviously trying to be the next Minions, but they didn't have the same charm because they didn't have much personality or screentime in general. The superheroes, three robots, are rather rushed as well. It was never explained how they came to be, or exactly what abilities they had. One has super strength and a really good sense of smell, one can make physical bubbles, and one has... a stick. The threat imposed by the main villain is laughable at best; his robot henchmen is much more intimidating from the beginning- or at least that's what it should have been, except main characters and unnamed members of the general public seem to have an almost amusing fear of him. Overall, not a terrible movie, but really not stellar in any way. I decided to watch because it was free; I probably would have wanted my money back if I had paid. Rather unfortunate, because the infrastructure and concept had promise and potential.

We (me & my wife) couldn't stand this movie for more than 30 minutes. All of the characters, sans the little minion rip-off bots, were devoid of any true emotion. The fart jokes got old really quick and there were a ton of them. The plot was full of tropes. Overall the movie just seemed like it was trying to, and failing at, being a Pixar movie.
