| The Nintendo DSi takes the highly popular Nintendo DS one step further into the future with better internet facilities and an onbaord digital camera. |

When I first heard that Nintendo were bringing out a new console I was rather excited because the DS is such a fantastic console, some could even say its almost perfect. I was unsure as to how they could better it and was eager to read about it so that I could justify why I needed to get rid of my DS and replace it with a DSI.
Having read about the new features on Nintendos website my initial reaction was that it is a little thinner and lighter which is good but as its not exactly huge I wasnt prepared to buy one for the size.
I carried on reading and discovered it had a camera; however I just wasnt very impressed as everybody has a camera phone these days so its not like you need one on a DSI. I told myself not to buy one as it is a waste of money, “stick with the DS” I kept saying when my friends were really excited about pre-ordering and buying theirs.
However I finally succumb to temptation and decided to drive to my friends to have a go and if I liked it I was going to buy one. I needed to see for myself what it was like however I was still rather disappointed and glad I didnt actually buy one. Its not all bad but I just didnt think it was worth spending over £100 to buy a new one when there isnt a great deal of difference.
The good points of it are that it is thinner and lighter which can never be a negative aspect but it also feels well built and robust at the same time. It does have a high resolution which is still very impressive and has great graphics for such a small handheld device but that is similar to the original. It has this cooler look than the DS and then on the whole the build quality is good. The camera can never be a negative part of it but I feel it wouldnt make a difference if its there or not and its not a great camera so is it actually worth having?
The negative aspects of it are that Im not sure if it will be the huge hit that Nintendo thought it would. Noticeably the price is a lot higher than the original DS, and in spite of that the game play and general use its still the same.
There is also the problem that it doesnt have a card slot so if you download a game you cant play it and that is an obvious drawback. I would recommend the Nintendo DSI to those out there that do not have a DS but I feel it will only sell to a specific market of consumers and this is why I dont think it will be a massive hit. |
